How do you install a photovoltaic or solar system on the roof? Special roof hooks hold the substructure of the system on the pitched roof. Our client’s product now makes this much easier. And to show this to his customers, we professionally animated the assembly of his universal metal roof tile in this 3D assembly film. Let's go!

In an existing tiled roof, roof tiles are removed from the desired locations and the universal metal roof tile is inserted. This is so flexible that it can be pressed into the existing roof tile contour. This was the biggest challenge in creating the animation. Not only did the wave contour of the old roof tiles have to be harmoniously adapted, but the embossed surface structure of the metal plate also had to continue to be visible.
After installing the metallic universal roof tile, a roof hook and a seal are installed and the existing roof is covered again.

From the illustrated storyboard to the finished montage film
At the beginning of the animation creation there is always a consultation with the customer. What should be shown and how? Which assembly steps are important? What should be explained and visualized in detail? All of these questions flow into an initial, rough, bullet-point description of the process. Based on this, an illustrated storyboard is then created. In this storyboard, all the important assembly steps are shown as they can be seen in the later animation. As a customer, you can see in advance what the later video will look like and, if necessary, incorporate correction requests.
Editable CAD model of the roof tile
There was a finished CAD model of the metal roof tile, but it could not be used for such a flexible animation. A CAD model looks like a rigid block that can only be bent to a very limited extent. Whenever you want something to be transformed individually, it is better to recreate the 3D model yourself in the animation program. The roof tile was modeled with only 8 surrounding splines (lines), which can be individually adjusted point by point. This means that other wave structures or bends can be created at the top like at the bottom of the roof tile. A kind of tension sheet is stretched over the splines, which then becomes the outer skin. And this outer skin gets the embossed structural look thanks to a special texture. Et voilà - a 100% flexible roof tile in 3D is ready and looks deceptively real after the rendering.
